The Sisterhood is having its first-ever theater event this Thursday evening, August 8, to see Folksbiene’s new play, “Hannah Senesh,” playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage through August 18. “Hannah Senesh” is a one-woman show in English that tells the story of Hannah Senesh, based on her diaries and poems. Hannah Senesh was a young Jewish woman who escaped from Axis-allied Hungary to Israel (then British Mandate Palestine) in 1939, where she joined the Haganah. She parachuted back into Europe to help rescue Hungarian Jews about to be deported to Auschwitz. She was arrested at the Hungarian border, imprisoned, tortured, and executed. She is considered a national hero in Israel.
